Jockey Club Discharge Support and Rehabilitation Programme Sharing Session

The Jockey Club Discharge Support and Rehabilitation Programme is funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It provides a specialized discharge and support program for individuals with dementia, offering daily care and rehabilitation training to elderly individuals who have just been discharged from hospitals or are at home. This program helps them regain their health and mental well-being, allowing them to continue aging at home. For families, the “road ” for individuals with dementia is like a reassuring promise.

On 19 November, we successfully held the ” Jockey Club Discharge Support and Rehabilitation Programme Sharing Session.” We were fortunate to invite several organizations, including the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, the Hong Kong Christian Young Women’s Association, and the Lutheran Social Service Department, along with our professional staffs, to discuss and share experiences and challenges related to discharge rehabilitation programs, transitional care needs and community support. We also invited caregiver from「我家有個大BB」to share her experiences in rehabilitating her grandma.

The session was attended by over 80 dedicated professionals and we hope that this sharing session enhances everyone’s understanding of specialized discharge and support programs for individuals with dementia. It highlights the importance of professional intervention and family support for elderly individuals recently discharged from hospitals or those at home.

“Brain Health” MTR Cognitive Testing Stations

To raise awareness among citizens about the cognitive health of their elderly relatives, we introduced the Jockey Club “Brain Health” Dementia Screening and Community Support Project at MTR Tai Po Market Station and Prince Edward Station from 1 to 5 and 10-14 November. We emphasized the importance of “early detection, early diagnosis, early intervention” and providing on-site cognitive testing.  Meanwhile, we also encouraged individuals with memory concerns to download the ” EC Screen” mobile app for self-assessment.

This event received over 590 citizens completing cognitive tests on-site. We sincerely thank the MTR for allowing us to promote the Jockey Club “Brain Health” Dementia Screening and Community Support Project in their stations to benefit many individuals in need.

GIES 2024

The GIES is been held from 21-24 November. We are honored to be invited to showcase the EDU Platform.  The four-day exhibition concluded successfully, with over 150 attendees registering for the EDU Platform on-site. Many caregivers and industry professionals expressed that the platform will assist them in learning more flexibly.

The EDU Platform is the first comprehensive online learning platform for dementia in Hong Kong. It provides courses on dementia knowledge and caregiving skills for family caregivers, industry professionals, corporate employees and individuals interested in dementia, using accessible explanations and real-life examples. The courses include exercises and quizzes to enhance motivation, along with notes for review.

Training Courses for Dementia Care

With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA continues to organise the training programme for caregivers.

The training courses “Intensive Training I” and “Intensive Training II” were successfully conducted by our social worker Ms. Ally Lam on 16 November. She shared with more than 130 caregivers on the basic knowledge of dementia, including understanding dementia, communication skills, different stages of care and care planning. Our center regularly organizes caregiving skills courses for family caregivers and provides effective solutions and support tailored to their needs and challenges, aiming to alleviate their stress and foster mutual understanding.
