Dementia Friendly Community: Train-the-trainer programme for MTR Corporation Limited

JCCPA organized a train-the-trainer programme for MTR to enhance their understanding in dementia and how to help the people with dementia when they are travelling in MTR. When the trainers equip with more comprehensive dementia knowledge, they are able to train up the frontline staff to provide more appropriate support to people with dementia. This is a significant action in building Hong Kong a dementia friendly community. MTR staff know how to have better communication and take care of people with dementia skillfully and provide a better support for the passenger with dementia when travelling.

Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign

In this campaign, we have developed the guarding-tooth device, using the bluetooth and crowd-sourcing technology, to assist caregivers to search for the people with dementia when they get lost.

Regarding the fifth-wave of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, we introduced ibeacon distribution by courier to avoid public gathering and keep everyone in safe condition. At the same time, online videos and teaching materials were prepared to assist caregivers to finish the application process as well as getting know more about dementia at their own place. There are around 20 were received in this month.

For the upcoming distribution arrangement, please visit our website for more details (https://www.jccpa.org.hk/en/projects/ccd/).

"1+2" Family Caregivers Training Course

With the support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA has launched a new programme “1+2 Family Caregivers Training Courses for Dementia Care” in 2022.

The half-day training session: communication skills was successfully held on 19 February. Our social worker and training consultant, Mr. Andrew Lau shared with over 190 caregivers on how to communicate with people with dementia and what we need to pay attention on etc. He also addressed enquires from caregivers with practical suggestions during the talk.

The last training course in this season will be held on 19 March (Sat). We will share some nursing skills when taking care with the people with dementia. If you are interested to join, please register at https://forms.gle/TuVDi7Cw274hpXYj6.
