Lunar New Year Celebration
JCCPA organized a special new year programme in the daycare centre. Besides enjoying the delicious traditional food, such as Radish Cake, Water Chestnut Cake and Sesame Cookies, the elderly members received a “lucky pack” from the God of Wealth cosplayed by our frontline staff. Our staff also used the red packets to make handicraft lanterns with the elderly; apart from training their hand-eye coordination, they can also decorate their homes with the artworks they have created.
"1+2" Family Caregivers Training Course
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA organized the second session of the “1+2 Family Caregivers Training Course” on 20 February 2021 via an online platform.
Our Training Consultant, Mr. Andrew Lau, shared with more than 200 family caregivers about the experience in communicating with people with dementia with the aid of some technique and tools. During the session, Andrew also responded and advised the family caregivers according to their caring cases and how to overcome various challenges when caring for people with dementia. The training was in a pleasant atmosphere; participants raised questions and responded very enthusiastically. We sincerely hope the practice could help them alleviate their difficulties and pressures.
Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign
Dr. Kenny Chui, Chief Training Consultant of JCCPA, was invited by KMB to conduct a 3-hours training for their Bus Captain Trainers. The training strengthened their understanding of dementia and the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. The Bus Captain Trainers will train up the new bus captains with the knowledge received in this training.
On 20 February 2021, JCCPA organized an Application and Distribution Day of the iBeacon device. With the free-of-charge iBeacon device attached to people with dementia, the family caregiver may get the approximate location of the elderly who is getting lost. The general public may download the “Dementia’s Secret Angel” APP and become “Dementia Angels”. Dementia Angels can simply turn on the Bluetooth and GPS on their mobile devices to help family caregivers to locate the people with dementia when he/she is getting lost.
