Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner
A Lunar New Year celebration dinner was organized for our elder members and their families on 17 January. Besides enjoying the delicious big bowl feast, the participants also received new year blessings from the “Caishen”. Everyone enjoyed a joyful night.
Reading Group of the newly published book "Growing Old Gracefully"
The second reading group of the book “Growing Old Gracefully” was organized on 10 January at Eaton Hong Kong Hotel. Prof Timothy Kwok, Director of Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing shared his experiences in Geriatrics. Ms Leila Chan, Independent Reporter who wrote the book content, also shared her views on elderly service. Many of the participants also shared their personal experiences and point of views about the current elderly service in Hong Kong.
Caregivers Training Course
A Caregivers Training Course was conducted on 18 January by Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau. Besides the basic knowledge about dementia, the content also covers communication skills, BPSD management, activities planning and community resources and so forth. It aims to provide caregivers with practical skills on taking care people with dementia and relieve their caring pressure and difficulties.

Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers for Carer Workers and Health Workers
JCCPA and Social Welfare Department jointly organized the “Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers” from October 2019 to January 2020.
The second class for professional staff was conducted on 3, 8 and 17 January. The course received very positive feedback and a full enrolment. Dr Kong Tak Kwan, Specialist in Geriatric Medicine, Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui and Occupational Therapist Ms. Cammy Leung shared their practical knowledge and experiences about dementia. The content covered effective communication skills, support for caregivers, distressing behaviors and so forth. We believe that this training course enhanced the basic knowledge of the participants in dementia and practical skills in taking care of people with dementia.
Advanced Diploma Programme in Dementia Care
On 11 January, the students of the captioned programme visited MIND-Friendly Home Exploration Centre, Grace Nursing Home (Tak Tin) and Toy Library of Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly to learn different elderly care service models such as latest environmental design and innovative technology for the people with dementia, person-centered caring in elderly home setting as well as maintaining brain health via playing toys. We sincerely thank the agencies for their valuable sharing.
Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme
The programme staff of PDSP visited Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly, EFCC Grace Church (Ma On Shan Branch) and Tsung Tsin Mission of Hong Kong Fuk Hong Neighbourhood Elderly Centre on 6, 13 and 22 January to carry out a cognitive test using EC Screen App.
The programme staff also visited Shatin Rhenish Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and Shatin Peace Evangelical Center on 7 and 19 January to conduct brain health talks and to carry out an on-site cognitive test using the EC Screen App.
Visits to E.F.C.C.-Hong Fook Church and Kowloon Tong Alliance Church Fung Shing Church were made to provide follow up cognitive tests for the participants who has signs of dementia/ mild cognitive impairment symptoms in the previous test using EC Screen App.
PDSP aims to promote early screening, early diagnosis and early intervention for people with MCI or early dementia by providing free cognitive test for adults aged 50 or above. Please feel free to contact us for more details (Tel: 2946 8185).

Training Service
9 January: Training Consultant Mr. Andrew Lau was invited by Ho Yee Neighborhood Centre for Senior Citizens (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) to share a session of “How to select suitable community service for people with dementia”, “Community resources and service referral” and “Financial planning and arrangement” with 33 caregivers.
