Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing (JCCPA) is partnering with St James’ Settlement and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to organize the “Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign” from September 2019 to August 2022.
With the integration of community network of NGOS and technological expertise, the Campaign aims to promote a dementia friendly communities. One top of the community-wide public education talks and events, the “Network for Supporting Missing Elderly with Dementia” APP will be launched to provide one more channel of lost prevention. The general public are encouraged to download the APP and become “Dementia Angels” so to help the lost dementia people to return home safely.
Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2019
“Jockey Club Caring Communities for Dementia Campaign” participated in the “Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2019” at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21 to 24 November.
Our staff introduced the “Network for Supporting Missing Elderly with Dementia” APP and the tracking device to the general public, the caregivers, the professional and frontline staff. The general public are also encouraged to download the APP and become “Dementia Angels”.
Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers for Carer Workers and Health Workers
JCCPA and Social Welfare Department jointly organized the “Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers” from October 2019 to January 2020.
The first class for professional staff was conducted on 25 October, 11 November and 22 November 2019. The course received very positive feedback and a full enrolment. Our Service Manager Ms. Mariam Lee, Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui and Occupational Therapist Ms. Cammy Leung shared their practical knowledge and precious experience about dementia, the content covered effective communication skills, support for caregivers, distressing behaviors and so forth.
We believe that this three-day course enhanced the basic knowledge of the participants in dementia and practical skills in taking care of people with dementia.
Advanced Diploma Programme in Dementia Care: Students Agency Visits
The students of the captioned programme visited Chuk Lam Ming Tong C&A Home for the Aged and Mind Delight Memory and Cognitive Training Centre to learn different elderly care service models such as person-centered care and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy on 2 November 2019. We sincerely thank the agencies for their valuable sharing.
Best Practice in Dementia Care Program (For Frontline Staff)
The captioned program led by Training Consultant, Mr Andrew Lau, was held every Tuesday from November 2019 to February 2020 in order to provide all-rounded and systematic training on dementia care for frontline staff.
The program was developed by University of Stirling Dementia Services Development Centre while JCCPA was authorized to hold the related training in Hong Kong.
Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme
We visited Kowloon Tong Alliance Church Fung Shing Church on 2 November to carry out a cognitive test using EC Screen App.
The programme staff also visited Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly, Chung On Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, EFCC Grace Church (Ma On Shan Branch) and Kowloon Tong Alliance Church Fung Shing Church to provide a follow up cognitive test for the participants who showed dementia symptoms in the previous test using EC Screen App.
PDSP aims to promote early screening, early diagnosis and early intervention for people with MCI or early dementia by providing free cognitive test for adults aged 50 or above. Please feel free to contact us for more details (Tel: 2946 8185).

Training Service
2 November: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by C & MA Bradbury King Lam Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to share “Care for people with dementia in different stages” with 21 caregivers.
12 November: Mr Kenny Chui was invited by Loving Smiles Foundation to share the relationship between dementia and dental health care.
20 November: Prof Timothy Kwok was invited by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service to share “Innovative Solutions for Dementia Care” at the “Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2019” with the general public.
28 November: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Buddhist Sum Ma Shui Ying C&A Home for the Elderly to share BPSD management with frontline staff.
