Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers for Carer Workers and Health Workers
JCCPA and Social Welfare Department jointly organized the “Training Course on Working with Elders with Dementia and Their Carers” from October 2019 to January 2020.
The first class was conducted on 16 October and 23 October. The course received very positive feedback and a full enrolment. Our Service Manager Ms. Mariam Lee, Senior Training Consultant Mr. Kenny Chui and Occupational Therapist Ms. Cammy Leung shared their practical knowledge and precious experience about dementia, the content covered effective communication skills, support for caregivers, distressing behaviors and so forth. We believe that this two-day course enhanced the basic knowledge of the participants in dementia and practical skills in taking care of people with dementia.
Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme
The staff of PDSP visited Kwong Fuk Alliance Church and E.F.C.C.- Hong Fook Church on 12, 19, 22 and 29 October to carry out a cognitive test using EC Screen App.
On 14 and 19 October, our staff visited Sun Chui Lutheran Centre for the Elderly. A visit to Chung On Neighbourhood Elderly Centre was made on 9, 10, 14 and 23 October respectively for a follow up cognitive test for the participants who showed dementia symptoms in the previous test using EC Screen App.

Real-Life Hostel Visit
Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub organized a visit for 29 representatives from NGO, elderly service, IT, health care and education fields to visit JCCPA. The visitors attended a demonstration on “eNightLog”, which is a bed-leaving monitoring system designed for people with dementia to promote a more safe living enviroment.
The “eNightLog” system was developed by The Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub while clinical testing was conducted in JCCPA. Besides, the visitors were excited to see the companion robot and explore how it interacted with the people with dementia. 3 October: Training Consultant Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Po Leung Kuk Vicwood K.T. Chong Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to share “Care for people with dementia in different stages” with 23 caregivers.
9 October: Mr. Andrew Lau was invited by Wong Yau Cheung Memorial Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to share “Environmental design and supportive daily living aids for people with dementia” with 24 caregivers.
12 October: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Caritas Elderly Centre – Sai Kung to share “Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia” with a group of caregivers.
12 October: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by H.K.S.K.H. Tseung Kwan O Aged Care Complex- Jockey Club District Elderly Community Centre cum Day Care Unit to share “Diet and nutrition” with a group of caregivers.
22 October: Mr Andrew Lau was invited by Sai Kung District Community Center to conduct as session of “Dementia experience” with 40 caregivers.
