Mid-Autumn Festival Event
On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, special celebration activities were organised for our elder members. During the event, the elder members and staff shared folk stories and customs about the Mid-Autumn Festival, they also made mooncakes together. In addition to traditional snowskin mooncakes, soft-textured mooncakes were also introduced to cater to the dietary needs of different elder members this year, allowing those with swallowing difficulties to also enjoy mooncakes and experience the festive atmosphere. These interactive activities not only helped participants recall memories of the festival and reminded them of the upcoming holiday, promoting reminiscence therapy, but also served as training on cognitive stimulation, hand-eye coordination, and spatial processing abilities.
Training Courses for Dementia Care
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA continues to organise the training programme for caregivers.
The “Oral Health, Nutrition and Diet Design” training was successfully conducted by our Senior Training Consultant, Dr Maria Chui on 21 September. Dr Chui shared the knowledge on oral health, nutrition and meal design for people with dementia with over 100 participants. She also answered various questions from the caregivers, such as a caregiver expressed her concern on whether it is good enough for people with dementia with dentures to simply brush the teeth with toothpaste and toothbrush once a day at night.
JCCPA offers regular training courses for family caregivers, focusing on equipping them with the skills and tactics to take care of people with dementia effectively and providing valuable solutions to caring difficulties. This may help relieve the pressure of family members and help them go on the care journey with empathy.
