The Fifth ‘Elderly Care Service Outstanding Employee Award’
The ‘Elderly Care Service Outstanding Employee Award’ is a grand event for elderly care service groups to commend industry leaders. We are delighted to announce that 4 of our staff was awarded with the 5th ‘Elderly Care Service Outstanding Employee Award’. They are:

Elderly Activity
A famous poem “Let Life Be Beautiful Like Summer Flowers” eulogises that life should blossom like flowers in summer which is in line with our aim of serving people with dementia – enjoy their life. Dried flower-making group was organised in July, to feel the gratitude of life through preserving the beauty of flowers. Various styles and colours were provided to stimulate the sight and sense of touch of our members. During the process, they could exert their creativity on composition, color matching, and location display. The product can be a decoration at home to let our members affirm themselves and establish a sense of accomplishment.
Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme (PDSP)
Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trusts, Jockey Club Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme (PDSP) staff visited various centres in July, including Bo Shek Mansion in Tsuen Wan which is under Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) and Tsing Yi (South) Integrated Family Service Centre, to carry out an on-site cognitive test by using the EC Screen App. EC Screen App aims to examine dementia for elders preliminarily in 5 – 10 minutes. If the examination result of elders is “Requires follow-up”, staff will contact elders for detailed assessment and refer the elders in need to private General Practitioners for cognitive diagnosis with subsidy.
Programme Staff also visited HKHS Broadview Garden to conduct detailed assessment for the elders in need in order to refer them to General Practitioners for cognitive diagnosis.
Besides, from June to July, programme staff conducted group training sessions for the elderly in HKHS estates, including Moon Lok Dai Ha and Clague Garden Estate in Tsuen Wan, Jat Min Chuen in Shatin and Kwun Tong Garden Estate. The elders can learn dementia knowledge from the training and establish healthy lifestyles in the future.
Post-diagnostic Support in Dementia Care Programme provides free educational talk and the cognitive screening for different NGOs, organizations and for those who aged 50 or above in order to screen and to be diagnosed by our collaborated General practitioners and to intervene early in dementia.
If anyone observed that the elderly in the family demonstrated a significant decline in memory and cognitive impairment, you are welcome to contact our programme staff Mr. Chan at 2946 8174 or Ms. Yuen at 2946 8187 to arrange a cognitive assessment via telephone for the people in need.
PDSP provides free training sessions for people aged 50 or above who have diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and early dementia within one year, as well as 6 to 9 months supporting services to those family caregivers. In view of the latest development of the novel coronavirus infection, elderly and the caregivers can choose to receive supportive service via telephone, zoom meeting or self-learning from our e-platform. "1+2" Family Caregivers Training Course
With the generous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, JCCPA launches the new “1+2 Family Caregivers Training Courses” in 2021.
The July “1+2” Family Caregivers Training Course for Dementia Care: One Day Intensive Training was successfully held on 17 July. Our training consultant Mr. Andrew Lau shared with more than 130 family caregivers on the topics of caring for people with dementia. The content is rich and substantial, including basic knowledge of dementia, daily schedule and health management, communication and caring skills, community resources and care arrangements, etc. During the course, Andrew also responded to many cases and challenges encountered by caregivers, hoping to help relieve their pressure.
The next “1+2” Family Caregivers Training Course will be held on August 21 (Saturday). Our Physiotherapist, Mr. Ben Chan, will share exercise, lifting skills and pain management for people with dementia. Family caregivers are welcome to register at https://forms.gle/EEgMZ6eEkkvm8ddG7.
